The purpose of Wooddale Church's Contemporary Worship Ministry is to honor God by providing weekly services that engage believers in an authentic worship experience through contemporary, culturally relevant forms and engage seekers in an experience that provides them an opportunity to interact with believers and to consider the truths of Christianity for their own lives.
Philosophy
The Bible makes it clear that God delights in our worship of him. In fact, according to Jesus, worshiping God is so much a part of who we were created to be that if we don't worship him, the rocks will cry out and do so (Luke 19:40)! Further, God wants us to worship him sincerely with our whole being, in spirit and truth (John 4:23-24). The Bible also contains many examples of people worshiping God through music, dance, prayer, drama, silence, use of scripture and speaking of who he is and what he has done. These examples demonstrate that since the beginning of human history people have worshiped God in ways that employed the communication methods and art forms of their particular culture and time. Likewise, we want to fully embrace the manifest presence of God in biblical, meaningful and relevant ways through appropriate 21st century cultural forms.
We do this at Wooddale Church by approaching worship much the way Christian philosopher Soren Kierkegaard did. He believed that, in worship, we have an audience of "One." Those in the congregation are the performers; the leaders on the platform are the coaches; and God is the audience. This further implies that the whole worship team - and not any one individual - functions as a coach. In this way, it is God - rather than any single human personality - who is magnified.
How do I get involved with Worship Team?
The most important prerequisite to being part of the Contemporary Worship Team is that you have a growing, personal relationship with Jesus Christ. As vocalists, we must lead with a spiritual passion for Jesus Christ. This is necessary for the congregation to sense a culture of authenticity and connection with God.
Opportunities are available for vocalists and band members. Auditions are required for all the areas of Contemporary Worship: Contemporary Worship Choir, Contemporary Vocal Team and the Contemporary Band. If you are interested in becoming a member or would like more information please fill out the Contemporary Music Team Application and email it to denise.johnson@wooddale.org. After your application is received, you will be contacted to schedule an audition.
